Kite-Style Broker Prototype on Angel One Data

An element-by-element Kite replica with real Angel One market data, a paper order management system and a live option chain with Greeks.

Built for a broker pitch: measured fonts, colours and table geometry, menus copied from the live app, a paper OMS following Kite's order model with 41 passing scenarios, depth-walk fills over five levels and option expiry settlement.

What makes it serious
  • Pixel and behaviour fidelity measured from the live Kite app
  • Paper OMS: 41 scenarios incl. depth fills, AMO, RMS, options
  • Live option chain with browser Greeks and expiry settlement
  • Never touched a real account during measurement

An Indian broker wanted to see a platform "better than Zerodha" before committing to a build. The prototype reproduces Kite's interface closely enough that a trader feels at home, running on real Angel One SmartAPI market data with a paper order management system behind it, so the pitch is a working product rather than slides.

Fidelity was measured, not guessed: font weights actually served, the different reds used in tables versus the watchlist, split-screen cell padding, sticky first columns, and every context menu copied from the live app. Because my real account had no positions, row-menu labels were read from the public JavaScript bundle instead. A rule held throughout: never place a test order on a real account; measure by reading the DOM only.

The paper OMS follows Kite's order model: statuses, after-market orders, risk-management rejects, stop-loss, IOC and TTL orders and intraday square-off, with 41 scenarios passing including depth fills and options. The options layer builds the chain from the exchange scrip master, computes Greeks in the browser, streams only contracts currently viewed, settles at intrinsic value on expiry and fills by walking five levels of depth. A practice mode simulates ticks after hours. It runs locally by my choice because the broker's API is IP-whitelisted and the branding requires an access gate.

How it works

  1. Server logs into Angel One read-only and loads the scrip master
  2. Watchlist and charts stream live quotes and depth
  3. Orders enter the paper OMS and fill by walking depth
  4. Option chain streams viewed contracts and computes Greeks
  5. Positions, P&L and settlement update in the Kite-style UI
